The Iliad Epic, Part 2: The Birth of Paris and the Prophecy of Troy's Destruction

Hecuba was a woman famous for her fertility. In her marriage to Troy's Priam, she had given birth to 19 children. However, while pregnant with one of them, she had a dream during her sleep. In this dream, a fire erupted from her womb and engulfed all of Troy. To understand the meaning of this dream, she consulted the oracles. The Oracles interpreted the dream clearly: the male child she was about to give birth to will bring about the end of Troy. Upon hearing this, Priam and Hecuba immediately ordered that the child be killed as soon as it was born. The person tasked with this duty leaves the newborn on Mount Ida to perish.

However, at that time, a childless shepherd on the mountain finds the baby and, considering it a gift from the gods, decides to raise the child. The child is given the name Alexandros, meaning "protected man." Paris is the second name of Alexandros.
