Consciousness and the Unconscious

Consciousness and the Unconscious

Myths are ancient narratives that tell the story of the birth of collective consciousness. In the beginning, there was only chaos—boundless, formless, a dark unconscious. This primordial state was an abyss beyond human comprehension. Yet, creation myths trace the emergence of the first light from this darkness: the feminine and masculine principles, Earth and Sky, born from the unconscious.

The First Step of the Ladder of Consciousness

Initially harmonious, these two forces soon enter into conflict. With each generation, they move further from the unconscious; the masculine principle (consciousness) grows stronger, while the feminine principle (the unconscious) recedes. This struggle culminates in the appearance of humanity—a product of the masculine principle’s decisive victory. Yet this victory is not absolute, for the human mind is shaped by the endless dance between consciousness and the unconscious.

Sacred Religions and the Symbolism of Power

The triumph of the masculine principle is embodied in the absolute dominance of celestial religions. The gods no longer dwell in the dark depths of the unconscious but reign from the throne of illuminated consciousness. Yet this does not mean the feminine principle has vanished entirely. The unconscious persists, lurking in the depths of the human psyche.

The Eternal Cycle: The Individual and Society

This mythic conflict is not just a tale of the past but a process we live through every moment. On both individual and societal levels, we grapple with the unconscious, seeking to make sense of it. Myths remind us: Human existence unfolds in the tension between consciousness and the unconscious. Victory is never complete, for without darkness, light loses its meaning.

Conclusion: Myths are the map of our consciousness’s evolution. To read them is to descend into the depths of our own minds.
