Topkapi palace Hıstory

After the conquest of Istanbul, Fatih Sultan Sultan Mehmet built his first Palace near the Grand Bazaar. Later, he asked for a bigger palace to be built instead of this Palace. Topkapı Palace, the construction of which started in 1470, has become a huge palace that has been added to new additions in 400 years. For about 400 years, 24 of the Sultans of Osmalı lived with his family in the topkapi palace. With the completion of the Dolmabahçe palace construction in 1856, the Ottoman royal family left Topkapi palace. Even though the Ottoman royal family left the topkapi palace, their connection with the palace did not break. As before, ascension and funeral rites continued to take place in the topkapi palace. Topkapi palace was used for receptions by adding new buildings in Baroque style such as dolmabahce palace.

Topkapı Palace Harem

Harem, which means forbidden area in Arabic language, is undoubtedly one of the most curious parts of Palace. The harem, which was forbidden to everyone except Members of the Ottoman royal family, some officials and concubines, had always aroused the curiosity of the ambassadors of another country who came to the palace for years. Due to the sexual image created by the curious ambassadors, Harem has created a very wrong image under the consciousness of many people.
